European HR Barometer Inspires Thought Leadership Analysis

For the fourth consecutive year, Hewitt has conducted its annual survey on HR trends and perspectives, in partnership with the European Club for human resources (EChr).

Survey findings reveal that the economic downturn is accelerating organisational change within HR departments. This will involve the acquisition of different skills and competencies, the need to attract new talent, establishing a leaner HR organisation, and identifying more effective tools to measure HR's value to the business.

Results Inspire Thought Leadership Analysis

The results of the 4th European HR barometer were at the core of a conference organised by the Marco Biagi Foundation and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia under the chairmanship of professor Luigi Golzio, Director of the International PhD School of Labour Relations.

Analysis of Hewitt research presented by Leonardo Sforza was supported and complemented by the contributions brought to the discussions by Valter Olivieri, Chief People Officer of Ferrari, Guido Muratore HRD at Sauer Danfoss Italy, Domenico Scarfí, VPHR at Sorin, Enrico Navi HRD at Nordiconad, and Fabrizio Gazzani, Director General at Industria Chimica Reggiana.

Stefan Zagelmeyer, Professor of Human Resource Management at the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef-Bonn in Germany and Leonardo Sforza, Head of EU Affairs and Research at Hewitt Associates, presented a joint paper on international HRM practices at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE), that took place 16-18 July at Sciences Po University in Paris.

Using data from the 2005-2009 waves of the HR Barometer, the paper helps to gain a better understanding of the role, impact and concerns of the HR function in the regional headquarters of multinational companies operating in Europe.
