It has been over two years since the requirements for Trustee Knowledge and Understanding (TKU) were introduced, so now is a good time to review progress.
The Pension Regulator’s Code of Practice and Scope Guidance on TKU issued in 2006 gave trustees a welcome focus on the knowledge needed to carry out their functions to the highest standards. At the time, it was noticeable that a great deal of effort was expended by trustees to meet the requirements.
So, how has TKU been addressed in different schemes and what actions should trustees be considering now?
