China
If the second draft of the Labor Contracts Law of the People's Republic of China is passed, it would fundamentally alter workforce management in the country. Employers would be required to review and likely revise existing employment arrangements.
 
Employers in China with a supplementary pension plan comprised of voluntary contributions to the local labor and social security authority must note that the bureaus are no longer permitted to accept these contributions.
 

Effective December 1, 2006, employees in Hong Kong may consult with or seek treatment from registered Chinese medical practitioners and be eligible for the sickness-related benefits established by the Employment Ordinance.

 
Japan
Effective April 1, 2010, all foreign residents will be required to demonstrate proof of enrollment in the Employee Health Insurance (EHI) or National Health Insurance (NHI) program in order to renew or apply for a visa.
 
The Japanese government announced that employer contribution limits for defined contribution plans will increase effective January 1, 2010.
