The Senate passed by a 68-29 vote the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 (H.R. 2647 and accompanying conference report) on October 22, 2009. The bill includes an expansion of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provisions related to qualifying exigency leave and military caregiver leave. Qualifying exigency leave would be available to family members of active duty military and military caregiver leave would be available to family members of veterans. The House approved the conference report on October 8. The bill is expected to be signed into law by President Obama.
