President Signs Defense Authorization Bill Into Law; Includes FMLA Military Leave Provisions

President Obama signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 (H.R. 2647 and accompanying conference report) on October 28, 2009. The law includes an expansion of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provisions related to qualifying exigency leave and military caregiver leave. Qualifying exigency leave will be available to family members of active duty military, and military caregiver leave will be available to family members of veterans. The House approved the conference report on October 8 with the Senate approving the report on October 22.
