Millions raised for Katrina relief through Hewitt call centers. On September 9, Hewitt donated their call center expertise and facilities at four locations in the United States to support the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. More than 1,400 Hewitt volunteers teamed with Illinois broadcasters and Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to assist the survivors
of the country's most devastating hurricane. The telethon far surpassed its initial goal of $2 million, raising nearly $6.5 million. Associates reported receiving contributions from a cross section of citizens—from school-age children donating lemonade stand money to retirees on fixed incomes.
Hewitt taps Best Employers in Latin America. The 25 Best Employers
in Latin America for 2005, sponsored by Hewitt Associates and AméricaEconomía magazine, were chosen in September by a four-judge panel in Santiago, Chile. Best Employers were found in smaller countries such as the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Honduras, as well as in larger ones, including Brazil and Mexico. Judges used company-specific information, including employee engagement scores, employee survey responses, CEO responses, and human resource programs and practices. Characteristics that separate the best from the other participating companies include an emphasis on employee learning and development, high involvement of the CEO in people issues, and a growing recognition of the importance of balance between work and personal or family commitments. The best also share five characteristics: leadership, HR programs, career opportunities, pay and recognition, and work/life balance and diversity. Hewitt takes Computerworld honors for sixth consecutive year. Hewitt Associates has been named one of the best work environments for IT professionals by Computerworld, one of the top publications for information technology managers. The annual Best Places to Work list is based primarily on the input of IT employees in such areas as size of technology budget, opportunities for growth, training programs, and rewarding and challenging projects. "The Best Places to Work rankings represent companies that recognize how a strong commitment to and investment in employees is synonymous with creating a great IT work environment," said Don Tennant, Editor in Chief of Computerworld.
